SAE 1070 is a high carbon water or oil hardening tool and low hardenability spring steel. It is used for railroad and street railroad rails, heavy machinery parts, shafts, springs and a variety of manual and machine tools requiring strength and wear resistance. This data sheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elastic and tensile properties, and fracture toughness. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining and joining

No. 70 steel 1.1 Summary: This steel has high strength, but low hardenability, and is suitable for manufacturing springs with small cross-sections (φ≤15mm). Tempering, stress relief. The steel has good machinability and large quenching deformation. It is mainly used for small coil springs, spring sheets, elastic washers, stop rings, etc. without quenching.
