Product Description

In a two-stage final drive, if the second-stage deceleration takes place near the wheel, which actually constitutes a separate part at the two wheels, it is called a wheel-side reducer. The advantage of this is that the torque transmitted by the axle shafts can be reduced and the size and quality of the axle shafts can be reduced. The wheel reducer may be of planetary type or it may consist of a pair of cylindrical gear pairs. When the spur gear pair is used for wheel edge deceleration, the positional relationship between the wheel axis and the half shaft can be changed by adjusting the mutual position of the two gears. This kind of axle is called a portal axle and is often used in cars that have special requirements for the height of the axle.
