Description: The combination of procaine penicillin G and dihydrostreptomycin acts additive and in some cases synergistic. Procaine penicillin G is a small –spectrum penicillin with a bactericidal action against mainly Gram-positive bacteria like Clostridium. Corynebacterium, Erysipelothrix, Listeria, penicillinase negative Staphylococcus spp. Dihydrostreptomycin is an aminoglycoside with a bactericidal action against mainly Gram-negative bacteria like E.coli, Campylobacter, Klebsiella, Haemophius, Pasteurella and Salmonella spp. Indications: Arthritis, mastitis and gastrointestinal, respiratory and urinary tract infections caused by penicillin and dihydrostreptomycin sensitive micro-organisms, like Campylobacter, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, E.coli, Erysipelothrix, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Listeria, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp., in calves, cattle, goats, sheep and swine. Contra-indications: Hypersensitivity to penicillin, procaine and/or aminoglycosides. Administration to animals with a seriously impaired renal function. Concurrent administration of tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, macrolides and lincosamides. Side effects: Administration of therapeutic dosages of procaine penicillin G can result in abortion in sows. Ototoxity, neurotoxicity or nephrotoxicity. Hypersensitivity reactions. Dosage: For intramuscular administration: Recommended dosage rate is 8 mg/kg bodyweight procaine penicillin with 10 mg/kg bodyweight dihydrostreptomycin sulphate equivalent to 1 ml per 25 kg bodyweight. Treatment should be given once daily for up to three consecutive days. Shake well before use and do not administer more than 6 ml in cattle, more than 3 ml in calves, sheep and goats and more than 1.5 ml in swine per injection site. Withdrawal times: Cows: Milk: 60 hours. Meat: 23 days. Sheep: Milk: Not to be used in sheep producing milk for human consumption. Meat: 31 days. Pigs: Meat: 18 days. Packing: Vial of 50 and 100 ml.
