Polyester Powder Coating dates back from the 1970’s and is the method of coating aluminium windows and doors. Polyester Powder Coating is the standardised method of painting aluminium windows and doors today, but powder coating is also applied to many other metal goods such as the motor industry and domestic white goods.
A lot of people assume painted aluminium windows to be “spray painted” whereas in fact powder coating is the application of dry paint to an aluminium window or door profile in the form of a fine powder which has been electrically charged.
Powder coating differs from ‘wet paints’ which typically are solvent based paints that must fully dry and evaporate.The aluminium window profile is electrically earthed so the polyester powder bonds to the profile and coats it through simple static electricity.  Following this application with electrical charge the profiles are oven baked at a high enough temperature to melt the powder allowing the paint finish to cure before it is cooled.  This results in powder coated aluminium windows. Note of Pretreatment: All the steel substrate should be degreased, the ferrous  metals should be zinc
or iron phosphating, aluminum recommended chromating, to improve corrosion resistance. Coating Method: Powder can be coated by manual or auto electrostatic spray guns.
