Although R134a refrigerant is the most popular alternative to Freon R12 in new refrigerating equipment, the physical and chemical properties of R134a and R12 are different, the theoretical cycle performance and compressor oil are different. Therefore, for the aftermarket maintenance of refrigeration equipment initially installed as R12 refrigerant, if additional refrigerants are needed or replaced, only R12 can still be added. It is usually not possible to replace R 12 directly with R 134a (that is, no replacement is usually allowed.
