WOTs are series of technically advanced rare earth-based surface treatment agents, which are successfully developed under the financial support of the National Hi-Tech Research & Development Program of China (863 Program). The preparation and application technologies of WOT series were awarded the first grade prize for science and technology progress of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association. WOTs can be used for surface treatment of a wide variety of inorganic fine and ultra-fine powders. The treatment of inorganic filler with WOTs can greatly improve the hydrophobicity of filler surface by physical absorption and chemical reaction, which resulting in considerably enhanced compatibility and dispersion of filler in nonpolar polymer matrix. When preparing the polymer/filler composites, the utilizing of WOTs treatment can remarkably enhanced the toughness and processability of polymer composites even at higher filler loading.
