ABOUT FLUORSPAR:
There are three principal types of industrial use for natural fluorite, commonly referre as "fluorspar" in these industries, corresponding to different grades of purity.
Metallurgical grade fluorite(60-85% CaF2), the lowest of the three grades, has traditionally been used as a flux to lower the melting point of raw materials in steel production to aid the removal of impurities, and later in the production of aluminum.
Ceramic grade fluorite(85-95% CaF2) Ceramic grade fluorite (85–95% CaF2) is used in the manufacture of opalescent glass, enamels and cooking utensils.
The highest grade, "Acid grade fluorite"(97% or higher purity), accounts for about 95% of fluorite consumption in the US where it is used to make hydrogen fluoride and hydrofluoric acid by reacting the fluorite with sulfuric acid.
CaF2: 60%-97% min
There are three kinds of Fluorite Mines:
APPLICATION OF FLUORSPAR:
Chemical Industry:
1. Glass Industry: Production emulsifying glass, opaque glass and colored glass material, can decrease the glass melting temperature, improved melt, melting speed, which can reduce the fuel consumption rate.
2. Ceramic Industry: Fluorspar is used to make glazes and surface treatments that produce hard glossy surfaces,opalescent surfaces and a number of other appearances that make consumer glass objects more attractive or more durable.
3. Cement Industry: Mineralized cement clinker agent, can reduce the sintering temperature, easy to calcination,sintering time and save energy.
Metallurgical Industry:
1. Steel Smelting 2.Ferroalloy Production 3.Non-ferrous Metal Smelting
As a flux in steelmaking to reduce slag viscosity, refineries add a "flux" to iron ore and coke mixtures to lower the melting temperature. This lowers the operating temperature of the furnace, thereby reducing energy consumption and production costs. The flux also aids in the formation of the "slag" on the surface of the molten steel that contains most of the impurities. Building Industry:
1. Mainly used for production of hydrofluoric acid
2. Downstream products of aluminium fluoride, magnesium floride, sodium floride
The hydrofluoric acid is then used to manufacture a variety of products which include: fluorocarbon chemicals, foam blowing agents, refrigerants and a variety of fluoride chemicals.
