Product description

Optical Ball lens are highly transparent spheres made of optical glasses.  Optical glass ball lens is used as fiber interconnects in telecom and expanded beam connectors. Schott N-BK7 glass Ball Lenses are glass spheres commonly used in fiber optic applications. Large ball lenses have been successfully used as collectors in LED lighting systems and medical devices.They have high coupling efficiency and should be much easier to align than traditional lenses due to its physical shape.
Schott BK7 Half-ball lens or fused silica half ball lens,optical hemispherical lens is ideal for applications such as fiber communication,endoscopy,microscopy,optical pick-up devices and laser interferometry and measurement.

Sapphire ball lens, Sapphire half-ball lens and Ruby glass ball lens are both made from (Aluminium Oxide) Al203. Ruby or Ruby-Doped sapphire owes its red color to traces of chromium oxide (chromium content for ruby balls is typically >0.5%). While their physical and chemical properties are basically the same, their optical properties are somewhat different. Sapphire has superior optical transmission qualities. Ruby optical glass Ball lens are easier to see and therefore easier to handle for physical applications. 

Larger optical ball lens is easier to handle and ease the sensitivity of translational alignment. However, smaller spheres or mini ball lens fits into smaller packages.
