The main type and work characteristics of impulse turbine
With the help of special distributor, the impulse turbine lead to free jet that only has kinetic energy, rush to runner bucket, make runner work, thus complete one kind of hydraulic prime mover that make the hydroenergy into mechanical energy.
In impulse turbine, according to relative position of work jet and runner as well as different number of doing work, it could be divided into pelton turbine, inclined-jet turbine and cross-flow turbine.
Pelton turbine, its work jet centerline is tangent to runner pitch, thus named pelton turbine; its runner blade are composed by a series of head that show the shape of double bowl, thus also named scoop turbine. Pelton turbine is the most widely used type in impulse turbine at present. Its application head is usually at 300~2000m, the highest application head has reached 1771.3m at present (Liese Ke-Crow grams Hydraulic Energy Storage Power Station, output of turbine N=22.8MW).
