  Basic principle: Based on the mechanism of traditional Fenton reagent, electro-Fenton also produces strong oxidizing ·OH by the reaction of H2O2 and Fe2+. Among them, the electrochemical production of H2O2 is produced by the reduction of oxygen under the conditions of oxygenation or aeration at the cathode, and Fe2+ can also be produced by the reduction reaction of the cathode.
Under acidic conditions, by means of oxygenation or aeration, oxygen will undergo a 2e reduction reaction at the cathode, as shown in formula (1), producing H2O2. In this process, oxygen first dissolves in the solution, and then migrates to the cathode surface in the solution, where it is reduced to H2O2 [1]. In an alkaline solution, oxygen reacts as shown in formula (2) to produce HO2-. Agladze [2] et al., by detecting the alkaline medium in the pores of the gas diffusion electrode, believed that the oxygen reduction reaction always produces HO2- and OH- through route (2).
