The annealed microstructure of mild steel is ferrite and small amount of pearlite, its strength and hardness are lower, and the plasticity and toughness are better. In machining mild steel, the appropriate cutting speed depends on the depth of the cutting, the feed rate, the hardness of the tool material and the workpiece. Generally, machining mild steel is more conservative to preselect the cutting depth and feed rate parameters according to the machining accuracy requirements. Carbon content from 0.10% to 0.30% mild steel is easy to accept various processes such as forging, welding and cutting. Machining mild steel is commonly used for chain, rivet, bolt, shaft production, etc..
