Lost foam casting is a new casting method that combines paraffin wax or foam models similar to the size and shape of castings into model clusters, brushes and dries fire-resistant coatings, buries them in dry quartz sand for vibration molding, pours them under negative pressure, vaporizes the model, occupies the position of the model with liquid metal, and forms castings after solidification and cooling.
Both Vacuum process casting and lost foam casting use vacuum forming, but there are significant differences in the process flow between the two. The biggest advantage of Vacuum process casting compared to traditional sand casting is that it does not use adhesives. Vacuum process casting uses plastic film to seal the sand box, and relies on a vacuum pumping system to extract air from the mold. There is a pressure difference between the inside and outside of the mold, making the dry sand dense and forming the required mold cavity. After the core is lowered, the box is closed, and the casting is vacuumed, the casting solidifies, and the negative pressure is relieved. The sand then collapses to obtain the casting.
