(1) Physical and chemical properties, ammonium molybdate [(NH4)6Mo7O24·4H2O] is colorless or light yellow, prismatic crystal, relative density 2.38-2.98, soluble in water, strong acid and strong alkali, insoluble in alcohol and acetone. It is easy to weather in the air and lose crystal water and part of ammonia. When heated to 90°C, it loses a crystal water and decomposes into ammonia, water and molybdenum trioxide at 190°C.

(2) Agrochemical properties. The role of molybdenum in crops is to participate in the transformation of nitrogen and the nitrogen fixation process of leguminous crops. The presence of molybdenum can promote the synthesis of protein in crops. Molybdenum can promote the assimilation of nitrate-nitrogen. When molybdenum is deficient, nitrate-nitrogen will accumulate in crops, which will hinder the assimilation of nitrogen, hinder the synthesis of amino acids in fruits, and reduce the quality of fruits. Molybdenum can improve the photosynthesis of leaves, promote the synthesis of vitamin C in plants, and promote the establishment of reproductive organs of crops. Molybdenum can also reduce chlorosis caused by excessive manganese, copper, zinc, nickel, and cobalt in the soil.
