Zirconium oxide (ZrO2) is the first option to make ceramic shafts for micro motors due to their attractive properties, let's make it more specific why zirconia ceramic is a preferred choice for fabricating mini ceramic shafts 

 

1. Excellent wear resistance:  It's 10 times in comparison with stainless steel, therefore, it's a more advanced material for making rotating shafts than stainless steel.

 

2. Extraordinary mechanical strength: The flexural strength is much better than other technical ceramics, it's not easy to crack under a high-speed rotating state.

 

3. Low friction with self-lubrication:  The static friction coefficient of zirconium oxide is 0.2~0.3, but the value of stainless steel is 0.4. The parameter under dynamic state is 0.1.

 

4. Corrosion resistance: ZrO2 ceramic shaft will not react with most strong acids and alkalis except for HF, it's resistant to aging, and never rusts in various high-damp or high-temperature conditions.

6. High-temperature resistance: zirconium oxide ceramic shafts could withstand high temperatures up to 1000℃, and the mechanical strength would be maintained well under so high heat circumstances.

 

7. High precision dimensions: It's easy to machine without chippings, the dimensions are very precise after machining with ideal consistency of sizes. It would promote the performance further.
