1. Raw material receiving unit

Material receiving unit is the first link of sweet potato starch processing. The primary purpose of this unit is the sweet potato preliminary removing impurity and the smooth storing in inside of raw material storage tank. 

Sweet potato is conveyed to the sweet potato yard after weighing by wagon balance, part of sweet potato is conveyed into the sweet potato storage hopper.

The key of this unit is to remove sand and other impurities of sweet potato during the harvest, the sand stick to the sweet potato can drop through the vibrating screen. Preliminary de-sanding and removing impurity can relieve machine burden of de-stoning and cleaning unit.

Attention must be taken that sweet potato should not be damaged in sweet potato purchase. Damaged sweet potato is easily decayed, and decayed sweet potato is vulnerable to infect around sweet potato. Bad sweet potato material has a big influence to starch quality. 

2. Raw material conveying unit

Sweet potatoes stored in the sweet potato hopper is conveyed to the large inclination-angle belt conveyor through conveying belt at the bottom of the hopper, and further is conveyed into cleaner to remove impurities by the large inclination-angle belt conveyor, removing sand and other impurities mixed in the materials at harvest time. 

3. De-stoning and cleaning unit

Clean raw materials for sweet potato processing play an important role, so de-stoning and cleaning unit of pretreatment stage is the most important. The purpose of this unit is to get rid of sandstone, clay of sweet potato, and to deposit cleaned sweet potato in sweet potato temporary hopper. 

Sweet potato is conveyed into the blades washer, blades washer adopts counter-current cleaning principle. Water flow (used for washing) and cleaning materials movement direction is opposite. Certain level of cleaning water is poured into the cleaning trough, sweet potato raw materials almost float on the surface of water and move forward along rolling blades through  internal trough. The sweet potato rotates and clashes each other in the water, getting rid of the soil and impurities on the surface of them in the greatest degree. Heavier sand and other heavy impurities sank to the bottom of the trough. Meanwhile, waste water outflows through the overflow outlet below the first trough, discharged soil and impurities sink to the drain outlet, and finally are discharged from there. In the end, the root pieces (materials) are conveyed to the next production link, through maximum cleaning of unloading fence.  

Sweet potatoes cleaned by blades washer are picked by blades and enter into a belt conveyor to be conveyed into the second rotary drum washer. Rotary drum washer works at a low level for thorough cleaning of sweet potatoes. In order to achieve washing effect, sweet potato tubers are cleaned through strong friction and collision between them, with the rotating of drum. Meanwhile clean cleaning water feeding from the material discharge outlet of rotary drum washer, water flow discharges dirty water and potato skins etc upstream from raw materials feeding inlet of rotary drum washer. A washing and conveying pump is connected with an external water tank of the rotary drum washer, the overflowed cleaning water is pumped into the first blades washer, as the preliminary cleaning water of raw materials. 

The cleaned sweet potatoes after came from rotary drum washer, and fall onto a large inclination-angle belt conveyor with spray. Several rows of nozzles scatter evenly above the screw conveyor; fresh water sprays on sweet potatoes through certain pressure to further take away dirty water of the sweet potato surface. The cleaning water flows into the bottom trough of large inclination-angle belt conveyor to discharge. Finally clean sweet potatoes came from big inclination-angle belt conveyor enter into a crusher to carry on the preliminary slice of sweet potato tubers, cutting big sweet potatoes into small pieces to ensure rasping efficiency of rasper. Cubage of raw material temporary storage bin generally is designed to store washing quantity for one to two hours.
