Properties:

White powder. The apparent density is 0.35～0.90g/cm3. Melting point 622 ℃. It is easily soluble in water, its aqueous solution is alkaline, and the pH value of 1% aqueous solution is 9.7. There are two crystalline forms, namely Na5P3O10-I type (α type, high temperature type) and Na5P3O10-II type (β type, low temperature type). The chemical properties of the two configurations are the same, and the same aqueous solution and crystalline hydrate can be obtained. The difference lies in different thermal stability, different solubility, different heat of hydration during dissolution, and different hygroscopicity. Type I is more stable and hygroscopic than type II. In water, it will gradually hydrolyze to form orthophosphate. It has good ability to complex metal ions, it can complex with calcium, magnesium, iron and other metal ions to form soluble complexes, which can soften hard water. Sodium tripolyphosphate is an inorganic surfactant with certain properties of organic surfactants.
