The sum total output power must be lower than the MAX input power of ac/dc power converter. If not, it is necessary to consider taking higher ac/dc power converter. There commended formula for ac/dc power converter is 15W per RJ45 set (1 set = 2 x RJ45sockets). Most IP phones and PoE cameras use less than 10 watts per device, and a 60 watt power supply Will be sufficient for most applications. 120 watts power supplies are recommended for WiFi Access Points. Consult your device specs if you’re not certain.   Do you need 48 volts or 24 volts? PoE Cameras and IP Phones use 48 volts, as do most models of WiFi Access Point. Look For  "802.3af" or "12v,PoE" on the device’s data sheet. 802.3af is Standard PoE (48 volts) And 12v, PoE means 12 volts is used when powered from a transformer and 48 volts when Powered via Ethernet.24 volts is typically used for WiFi Access Points   What's the solutions for PoE and non-PoE IP cameras. Most IP cameras spec 802.3af – we power these with our 48v solution. We also have solutions for 5v and 12v non-PoE cameras. Budget 6 watts per camera, 8 watts if they have PTZ or IR features. If the camera uses 12v or 24v From a “wall wart” power supply, it may still need 48v from the PoE – look for the words 802.3af in The spec. How poe works? A devices needs power to operate, that power canbe supplied at different voltages, the Electronices inside needs usually about 3.3 or  5 volts. but at low voltages, the wires form power Supply have a lot of loss beyond about 5 feet. so for short distance power, must IP phones and Cameras are shipped with a 12v power supply because 12v supplies cost less. but these same Devices, when powered via the ethernet cable, use 48volts this is the 802.3af standard voltage. So a 12v1amp power supply for local power- when using poe at 48v translates to 48v0.25amps For the same power.   why 48v is used on ethernet cables? The device needs power- a phone needs about 4 watts, so at 12volts-that is 0.35amps. the power Cord in the 12v supply is very short-say 6 feet. the loss in 6 ft of power cord is about 20 milliwatts-Not a problem.  power loss is the current squared times the distance. If we use 48volt- the power is the same, but the current is lower-about 80millamps. an ethernet Wire can be up to 328ft-so the loss is 50 times greater than at 6ft, but since the current is 4 times Lower- the power loss(a square of the current) is 16 times lower-the loss in the cable is about 70 Milliwatts. a 15 watt device will lose 16x more power in the wire-about 1 watt at 48volts. at 12vlots- The cable loss for a 15 watt device would be 16 watts!   is 60 watts going to damage my device?
