How to select suitable type of filter cloth? Filter cloth is increasingly applied by more and more industries such as chemicals, metallurgy, mining, food & drinks and pharmacy as an effective and affordable media of solid-liquid separation. As an essential factor of filter machines,(such as filter press, belt filter, disc filter,etc.) filter cloth plays an important role to ensure clear filtration, dry filter cake, short filter cycle and long lifetime. There are 3 ways of cloth type selection.   1.      If your present filter cloth is satisfactory and you have filter cloth specifications, we will choose equivalent according to the specifications. The prominent property for polyester fabric is its strongest acid resistance among existing synthetic fabrics. It is widely recognized as an outstanding and popular filter cloth for its high operating temperature up to 150 degree ,high tensile strength and good elongation.   Polypropylene fabric
Polypropylene fabric is characterized by sleekness, excellent permeability and little moisture absorption. Its excellent cake release will significantly shorten cleaning time as well as filter cycle. It also has excellent resistances against most acids and alkalis. Its constant working temperature is rated at 90 degree. It is resistance of PH 14 high alkali, so it is preferred by the aluminum factory for the alumina filtration.   Nylon filter cloth 
Nylon filter cloth features optimum abrasive resistance and strong alkali resistance. It is often found in miner and coal industries for its best abrasion proof. The only shortage is that its chemical instability under high and low temperature. Under high temperature, the cloth will extend, and under low temperature, it will shrink. Another important feature for nylon is under the high temperature, it will release toxic substance and pollute the solutions.   2.When do the cloths need to be cleaned or replaced?   The filter cake will begin to become wet, slimy and not as dry. This is your indicator that the cloths need to be cleaned. If you have already cleaned your cloths and your process has not changed but you are still getting slimy filter cake, it may be time to replace your cloths. Cloth life varies from installation to installation and depends on such variables as frequency of cycles, proper cleaning and maintenance and the type of sludge that is generated.   3. How do I clean my filter press cloths?   There are several methods used to wash cloths while they are still installed in the press.  The most commonly used methods are acid washing and water washing.
Water washing is a portable high-pressure (800-1200 PSI at 2-10 GPM) cold water spray unit.  These units come with a hand held power wand with spray nozzle, which is slowly moved over the cloths.  This method cleans by not only flushing off the cloth surfaces but by also penetrating the cloth to flush particles out of the depth of the weave.  If high pressure washer is not available, chemical cleaning is used to remove embedded particles. Cautions should be taken when clean the filter cloths with chemical solutions. Polypropylene fabric is compatible with caustic and acid cleaning. However, nylon and polyester fabric should be given special cleaning solutions.   4.What should I do to make filter fabric work longer? As an important part of filtration, filter cloth determines the filtration efficiency. Usually, the service life of filter fabric will be shortened by chemical attack and mechanical abrasion. The fabric need to be installed on the machine correctly. The fabric need to be cleaned carefully.   5.What is the correct way of filter cloth storage? Synthetic filter fabrics can be stored to indefinite duration in theory, for they will not be affected by mildew or insects. However, polypropylene should be stored inside for it will degrade under ultraviolet light. Nylon fabric should be stored at normal temperature, too hot, fabric will extend, too cold, fabric will shrink.
