The Mavea Water Filter Pitcher was opened and used lightly for a week (selling because I have 3 different models). It's like new, the electronic indicator was started and is still blinking at the time of this writing. Press start to reset. It comes with 2 micro discs which are sealed. Feature:

Instruction:

1. Remove filter from filter bag 
2. Rinse filter with cold tap water for 15 seconds
3. Insert filter into reservoir
4. Press filter to ensure a tight seal 
5. Fill reservoir with cold tap water 
6. Discard the first 3 pitchers of water, and the filter is ready to use

Testing :

This filter has been tested by the manufacturer against NSF/ANSI Standard 42
