Imitation gold leaf col.2.5# is similar with 23.75k pure gold , it is 85%of copper & 15% Zinc Metal Leaf...
Metal leaf is exactly as it sounds. A more cost effective version of genuine gold and silver leaf imitating the same metallic qualities. Imitation leaf is mainly used for less prestigious projects.
The metals used to create the imitation gold leaf are an alloy of copper and zinc. Aluminum leaf is an alternative to silver leaf and whereas imitation gold leaf has to be varnished to prevent it from tarnishing, aluminum leaf needs no protection at all from oxidisation
Metal leaf is commonly used for framing and furniture and quite widely used nowadays for use in interiors as wall decoration or on decorative items thanks to popularity of the many home improvements TV programmes.
Metal leaf is thicker than genuine gold leaf and therefore a lot easier to handle. To protect metal leaf we would recommend shellac varnish or metal leaf laquer.
There are approx 2 booklets 14cm x 14cm required to cover 1 sq meter If you would like to gild a object then first carefully select what you would like to gild, for this firmer work better. Then paint on a thin layter of acyrlic gold size over the areas you would like to gild. Leave the size for approximately fifteen minutes or until the size reaches tack (the glue should feel about as adhesive as sellotape to the touch). Carefully take a leaf of transfer imitation gold (or genuine gold leaf if you're feeling extravagant and price permits) from the booklet and press gently against the object to release the leaf. Then gently take away the backing paper to leave the gold adhered to the leaf, voila!
