This is best done before the unit is actually put in the window and any moisture is absorbed as this will best remove any loose dust or dirt.

Use a Dusting Wand and Smaller Tools to Clean the Window Air Conditioner

A window unit from the inside of the home has multiple nooks and grooves within the unit frame. The larger of these grooves can be cleaned with a basic damp cloth or paper towel. A better method is to use a static charged cleaning wand with feathered edges. Q-tips can also be dampened and then used to reach into really tight spaces on the air conditioner and remove dust build-up.

Replace or Clean the Filter on Your Window Air Conditioner

A highly important part of cleaning your air condition is ensuring that any elements that can be changed or cleaned such as the air conditioner filter are spick and span before installing the unit. This will ensure that the air conditioner is able to perform optimally from the moment it is turned on for the first time this spring or summer. If you have a limited amount of filters for replacement, it is also a good idea to stock up on them immediately as part of the cleaning and maintenance process.
