Theory
Usually ignition coil has two group of coil,Primary coil and secondary coil.Primary coil used by a thick enameled wire.Usyally use about 0.5-1mm enameled wire around about 200-500 turn;seconday coil has thin enamled wire,usually use 0.1mm enameled wire around 15000-25000 turn.Primary coil one end connect with low voltage + power supply,the other end connect with power switch( circuit breaker).The secondary coil one end connect with primary coil,the other end connect with high voltage wire output to output the high voltage electricity. Ignition coil can change the car low voltage to high voltage due to it has the same form of the normal transformer.Primary coil turn ration is bigger than secondary coil.But igniton coil work way is different from ballast.Normal ballast frequency is fixed 50Hz,also called frequency transformer.But the ignition coii is work by pulse form.It can be considered as pulse ballast,It do engery storage and out energy according to different rotating speed and different frequency.
When the primary coil connect with electricity,with the current increase,the around will produce a strong magnetic field,iron coil store the magnetic field energy;When the power switch let the primary coil circuit break,primary coil magenetic field will be weak,secondary coil will induct very high voltage.Primary coil disappear more fast,the current break immediately will cause bigger current. Two coil turn ratio bigger,the secondary coil induct higher voltage.
Ignition coil types
Igntion coil have open type and closed type.Traditonal ignition coil use open type,the iron coil is stacted by 0.3mm silicon steel sheet.Iron coil was round by primary coil and secondary coil.Closed ignition coil use similar Ⅲ iron coil around primary coil.The outer around second coil,magnetic wire consititue closed magnetic circuit.Closed type advantage is magnetic flux leakage,energy loss is small and small size.So electronic ignition system use closed magnetic iginition coil.
On Hyundai of the high speed oil engine,it has used micro control iginition system,also call digital electronic control ignition system.This ignition system has consistued by micro computer,all kinds of sensors and ignition actuators.
Actual on the Hyundai engine,gasoline injection and igniton were controlled by the same ECU,use a combination of sensors.Sensor is the same one on the electronic control oil injection system,for example,crankshaft sensor,camshaft position sensor,throttle position sensor,intake manifold pressure sensor,deflagration sensor and so on.Deflagration sensor is a important sensor for the electronic control ignition(in particular an engine employing an exhaust gas turbocharger).It can monitor engine if deflagrate and extent of deflagration,as the feedback to let ECU instruction ignition advance and let engine not deflagration,also get high combustion efficiency.
Digital electronic control igniton system(ESA) according to the structure,have distributor and no distributer.Distributor type only use a ignition coil to produce high voltage,then distributor ignition in each cylinder spark plug according the the iginition order.Due to the primary coil connect and break by electronic ignition circuit.So the distributor has conceal the electricity break device,only do high pressure distribution function.
Double cylinder igniton
Double cylinder ignition means 2 cylinder use 1 ignition coil.So this way can only use on the engine for the cylinder quantity is even number.If on 4 clylinder,when 2 clylinder piston closing to the dead point,one is compressor,the other is exhaust.Two spark plug using the same ignition coil and do ignition at the same time.At the same time,one is effective igniton,the other is non-effective ignition.The former one is in the high pressure low temperature mixed air,the latter is in the low pressure,high temperature exhaust gas.So the two spark plug between the electrode with the different resistor.The energy is also different.Resulting the much greater energy for effective ignition.It takes up about 80% of the total energy.
Alone ignition
Alone igniton is each cylinder has 1 ignition coil,ignition coil install on the top of the spark plug.Then it cancel the high pressure wire.This way through the camshaft sensor or through monitor the cylinder compressor to achieve accurate ignition.It fit for all kinds of engine with any number of cylinders,especially fit for each cylinder with 4 valves.Because the sparkle plug ignition coil can install on the middle of the double overhead camshaf (DOHC).Making full use of the gap space.Due to cancel the distributor and high pressure wire,energy conduction loss and leakage loss is extremely small,no mechanical wear,also each cylinder ignition coil and sparker plug assembly together,outsider packed by metal,greatly reducing the electromagnetic interference. It can guarantee the normal operation of the engine electronic control system.

Using attention:
Ignition coil isn’t used corretly,it will destroy the ignition coil.So attention to the follows:avoid the ignition coil over heat and wet,don’t turn on the ignition switch,when the engine don’t work.Often check,clean, tight the line connector.To avoid circuit short or ground.Controling the engine performance,to avoice voltage is too high.Spark plug may not long “hanging fire”.using cloth to wipe dry the water on the ignition coil.Can’t use fire to bake,it will destroy the ignition coil.
