Product Description Virgin coconut oil or VCO is extracted from fresh coconut flesh without any chemical process or ingredients. The VCO plant extracts virgin coconut oil from fresh coconut milk using an advanced cold processing technology through a high speed centrifuge. The oil extraction process takes place through different steps, which include coconut dehusking, coconut deshelling, coconut peeling (paring), disintegration, coconut milk extraction and coconut oil extraction. The whole process of extracting virgin coconut oil takes place with the help of different machines. The working of each coconut processing machine in a VCO plant is given in the diagram.

Cold Processing Technology

Coconut milk is an emulsion of coconut oil and water which is stabilized by a protein. To recover coconut oil from coconut milk, the protein bond has to be broken either by heating or by enzyme separation or by some mechanical means.

The most commonly used methods for VCO extraction are hot process technology – which uses heat separation and cold process technology – which uses mechanical separation for oil extraction. Cold process technology makes use of high speed tubular centrifuges to help coconut oil retain its natural, healthy nutrients which are usually lost when heat is applied. When coconut oil is cold-processed, the temperatures during the cold processing of coconut oil never exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit (48.8°C). Cold process technology produces best quality VCO with sweet coconut aroma when done in a 2-stage centrifuge process. It offers a longer shelf life because it contains natural antioxidants and phytosterols which counteract oxidation (spoilage) and excessive free-radical formation. Virgin coconut oil that is cold-processed is packed full of great natural healthy properties. It contains antibacterial, anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties and is full of healthy, short and medium-chain fatty acids.
