Cinema Screen

As the theatre screen is an inexpensive item compared to projection and sound equipment, seating, air-conditioning and heating units etc, many exhibitors regard its conditions as a trifling matter and fail to have it replaced until the picture quality becomes so poor that patrons tend to stay away.

In fact, the cinema screens is an extremely important part of the projection and sound set up. The best photograph, the finest film print, the most lifelike colour, the most powerful lights and the highest quality projection lenses cannot overcome the deterious effect of a screen which is in poor condition, or unsuited to the size and shape of the auditorium.

A screen is a primarily a reflector and diffuser of light. It should be a clear white, not brown or yellow or any other tint. The first consideration, however is uniformity of surface, even though a special kind of non-uniform surface actually produces a more even illumination. The first requisite for a perfectly flat screen is a sturdy stretching frame of good quality. It is always a good idea to go backstage at regular intervals to check the tightness of the screen.
