What is ball screw?
A ball screw is a mechanical linear actuator that translates rotational motion to linear motion with little friction. A threaded shaft provides a helical raceway for ball bearings which act as a precision screw. As well as being able to apply or withstand high thrust loads, they can do so with minimum internal friction. They are made to close tolerances and are therefore suitable for use in situations in which high precision is necessary. The ball assembly acts as the nut while the threaded shaft is the screw.

What is the difference between Ball screw and lead screw?
The main differing feature between a ball screw and a lead screw is the ball bearings within a ball screw assembly. This makes a ball screw more complex, but it also has a number of benefits. For example lead screws are much less efficient than ball screw assemblies. The actual efficiency is determined by lead angle, but a reasonable number for a typical ball screw assembly is 90% efficiency or more. Due to this high efficiency, in conjunction with other features such as low friction, ball screws have a driving torque that is usually about a third that of a typical lead screw.
