Physical properties: White to off white crystals that are practically odourless when pure and has a bitter taste. The pH 3.5 to 6.0 (10% solution in water). High humidity and high temperatures adverse affect stability. It is slightly soluble in water and practically insoluble in ethanol (96%), chloroform, ether and in fixed oils. It dissolves in dilute solutions of acids and of alkali hydroxides.
