    Alisma orientale, a member of the plant family alismataceae, is a herb commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The medicinal part of alisma orientale is the dried root of Alisma plantago-aquatica. Alisma orientale is a perennial plant that grows aggressively in shallow water and boggy spots in parts of northern China. The flowers are hermaphrodite, and are arranged in panicles, racemes, or umbels. Alisma flowers have six stamens, numerous free carpels in a single whorl, each with 1 ovule, and subventral styles. The fruit is an achene with a short beak.
